So true. by TOM7I on 24 Jun 2006 Hey, Stephane! First of all I wanted
to congratulate you for a great site and especially for your courage and
wit which you have displayed in the rants section. I came across your site
by sheer accident when I was searching for some info on Man O War and
after reading the articles written here I just had to sign in and write a
letter. I posted it in this section becouse it hasn't got any replies
yet but mostly becouse it corresponds with the main cause of my
aggravation towards GW. I'm not a gamer yet although I know some people
who play Warhammer and 40K; I would like to be one someday but right now I
just don't have the time. I began with 5th edition vampire counts, which
just came out as I started to build my collection. I've purchased the
miniatures, the overpriced colours from GW (here in Slovenia we dont have
any notable alternatives yet, or maybe I wasn't looking hard enough) and
the 5th edition VC army book. I started to build my army and after a
couple of months, when my depleted moneybag filled up again, I purchased
the brand new 6th edition hardcover rulebook. In the meantime I've read
all I could about the new army which seemed to be featured everywhere
since it's release, including the (in hindsight) heavily biased battle
reports, where no matter which the opponent or scenario, the VC's would
always win (isn’t it like that with the others as well?). I think it was
the last army in 5th edition that came out, but then Ravening hordes
appeared and many of us were really confused as we had to get new rules
that seemed like they were thought up over a few days and still only “half
there”. Another couple of months passed and then all of a sudden there was
the new vampire counts army book, which I had to buy as well becouse there
was no army books on the internet yet… So there I was, having purchased a
lot of obsolete stuff over two years along with crappy paint that you
mentioned somewhere else (it’s just as you said but I noticed only now
that I’ve read it here) plus I had to change my troop layouts according to
GW’s whim everytime they decided to bring a new version out. In the end I
have also noticed the greedy vampire bloodline “evolution”: first there
were four bloodlines; now there are five bloodlines including the new
Strigoi, but as Alessio Cavatore mentioned in his VC armybook there were
originally seven bloodlines so when GW runs low on funds, I’ll be
presented with at least two new army books with a new bloodline in
each… Well, having said that I feel a bit better since now I can post
my rants somewhere where they will be read by sensible people who are also
avare of the bad sides of “The Hobby”. I’ll write another rant in the
specialist games, dead games section next so see you there. Thanks for the
great site! Bye, Thomas Completely agree by peterbondra on 18 Dec 2007 Fantasy isn't the same. GW
obviously wanted to make more money selling hordes of rank and file
(can't blame them) as opposed to a handful of special characters. Pretty
much switched to 40k altho I still kept one of my fantasy armies around
just in case! |
